a stitch outside timeA Stitch Outside Time is a site specific permanent composition for the train journey between London Fenchurch Street and Shoeburyness via Basildon, launching Saturday 19 January. It uses digital sound synthesis and GPS technology to create musical structures and sounds that respond to the train’s location. The patterns are based upon the Tala system, an ancient musical approach to time and rhythm found in Indian Classical Music. The composition is different each time is it listened to, it evolves throughout the journey to create unique correspondences with the landscape.
